Eine der ultimativen Weisheiten jedes Ballerspiel-Liebhabers und Splatter-Film-Fans lautet:
Wenn ein Zombie droht aufzustehen, soll man am Schrot nicht sparen.
In diesem Sinne heißt es „ladet die Büchsen“, denn Helmut Kohl wurde im April 80 Jahre alt und nachdem man ihn, nach Spendenaffäre und öffentlichen Lügenorgien, bereits auf dem Müllhaufen der „Gechichte“ wähnte, feiert er nun doch tatsächlich eine wundersame Auferstehung.
Bereits seit mehreren Jahren verklärte ihn die „Bild“-Zeitung mit dem unverdienten Titel „Kanzler der Einheit“. Dass nun allerdings auch auch die Redakteure seriöser Zeitungen und Zeitschriften ihn wieder aus der Versenkung holen wollen, ist ein Novum.
Von allen Seiten (Zeit, Welt, Spiegel, F.A.Z.) redet man nun salbungsvoll von seinen Verdiensten und vergisst dabei geflissentlich, welchen ungeheuren Flurschaden er am politischen Bewusstsein, um nicht zu sagen am Urvertrauen einer ganzen Generation angerichtet hat.
Ich bin Jahrgang 1980 und habe meine ersten sechzehn Lebensjahre unter der Regierung von Helmut Kohl verbracht. Kohl zählt daher zu meinen frühesten politischen Erinnerungen überhaupt. Schon für meine Kinderaugen strahlte er etwas aus, das mir zutiefst unsympathisch, um nicht zu sagen ekelhaft war.
In meiner naiven kindlichen Sicht stufte ich seinen Anblick als misslungene Kreuzung aus Hermann Göring und Jabba the Hutt ein und fragte mich tiefbewegt, wie nur die Masse meiner Landsleute einen solchen Stinkstiefel zum Kanzler wählen konnte.
Meine, aufgrund seines optischen Eindruckes gewonnenen, Vorurteile wurden nur noch verstärkt, als ich ihn das erste Mal in einer Diskussionsrunde im Fernsehen erleben durfte, in der er den Vertretern der Opposition so schamlos mit den Worten „ich bin där Ganzlär“ in die Redezeit hineinsabberte, dass mir das kalte Grausen kam.
Trotz der durch und durch negativen Meinung, die ich über diesen Menschen hatte, hielt ich ihn allerdings wenigstens für einen ehrlichen Mann. Wie sehr man sich doch irren kann!
Aus meiner heutigen, gereifteren politischen Sicht heraus fiele es mir natürlich nicht mehr ein, Helmut Kohl mit Hermann Göring oder Jabba the Hutt zu vergleichen.
Dafür ist er für mich inzwischen zu einer traurigen Figur geworden, nicht zum „Kanzler der Einheit“, sondern zum „Kanzler der Unehrlichkeit“ dank „Bimbes“ und schwarzer Kassen.
Außerdem kann man getrost davon ausgehen, dass die deutsche Einheit auch zustande gekommen wäre, selbst wenn damals nicht Helmut Kohl, sondern Spongebob Schwammkopf die Bundesrepublik regiert hätte.
Dass er das Geschenk, welches die Geschichte ihm in den Schoß legte, angenommen hat, ist nun wahrlich kein großes Verdienst, trotz seines bestimmt ehrgeizig gemeinten Zehn-Punkte-Programms.
Und dass die ersten Jahre der Wiedervereinigung, die wir nicht ihm, sondern dem Freiheitsdrang der DDR-Bürger und der Gutmütigkeit der Siegermächte zu verdanken haben, auf solch eine äußerst missglückte und sozial ungerechte Weise abgelaufen sind, ist zumindest teilweise seine Schuld.
Als Ausdruck der Dankbarkeit für seine „erfolgreiche“ Einigungspolitik flogen deshalb schon im Jahre 1991 die ersten Eier gegen ihn.
Trotzdem wurde er im Jahre 1994 noch einmal wiedergewählt, was eventuell daran lag, dass die SPD ihren charismalosesten Politiker aller Zeiten (Rudolf Scharping) gegen ihn ins Rennen schickte.
Spätestens da begann für die meisten Angehörigen meiner Generation ein Gefühl politischer Lähmung, man könne doch „eh nichts machen“ und es entstand die wohl apolitischste, trägste und ignoranteste Generation der neueren deutschen Geschichte.
Warum aber wird nun so krampfhaft versucht, Helmut Kohls selbstverschuldet zerstörten Ruf wieder aufzubauen?
Ich habe den Eindruck, dass sich die deutsche Konservative hier eine Art Ikone hochstilisieren will, gleich dem Atomwaffennarren Franz-Josef Strauß.
Ein anderer Grund warum über Kohl nun versöhnlicher geurteilt wird, ist wohl die Verklärung der Vergangenheit, aufgrund derer man auch der Meinung ist, die eigene Wehrdienstzeit wäre ja doch „gar nicht so schlimm gewesen“ obwohl man sich als Rekrut noch für die Entscheidung, zum Bund zu gehen, selbst verflucht hat.
Aber besinnen wir uns:
Was damals schon zum Himmel stank, bekommt auch im Rückblick keinen Rosenduft.
Der dritte Grund könnte natürlich auch Mitleid sein. Schließlich wurde Helmut Kohl von einigen harten Schicksalsschlägen getroffen und ist inzwischen ein Greis im Rollstuhl.
Dieses Mitleid kann ich als Angehöriger der „Generation Kohl“ aber zumindest der politischen Figur Kohl nicht entgegenbringen. Das Ausmaß an feister Selbstgerechtigkeit, welche er auch angesichts aller Affären bis heute an den Tag legt, wäre nicht einmal mehr in einem jungen und unverbrauchten Menschenleben zu büßen.
