Zur Eröffnung der Buchmesse: Deutsche besonders inkompetent beim Lesen
Fast 200.000 Erwachsene wurden für den PIAAC-Test zum Allgemeinwissen und den Alltagsfähigkeiten von Erwachsenen in 24 wichtigen Industrienationen der Welt befragt. Für die deutsche Bevölkerung, die angeblich in einer Bildungs- und Wissensnation lebt, ist das Ergebnis der Studie ala PISA wirklich sehr ernüchternd.
Wenn wir vom Stellenwert solcher Rankings einmal absehen, und auch darüber hinweg gehen, dass fast zwei Drittel der Deutschen nicht einmal in der Lage sind, über mehere Web-Seiten zu navigieren – was doch wirklich noch keine “Computer-Expertise” meint -, so stockt uns bei der “deutschen Lesefähigkeit” am Eröffungstag der Frankfurter Buchmesse ( “die größte der Welt”…) gerade hier in Frankfurt doch kurz der Atem.
Sowohl bei den Erwachsenen, die kaum in der Lage sind, einen Text zu verstehen, der länger als ein Satz ist, wie bei der Zahl derer, die besonders “lesekompetent” sind, schneiden die Testpersonen in Deutschland erheblich schlechter als der Durchschnitt der ganzen OECD-Bevölkerung ab! Es gibt hierzulande also viel mehr Menschen, die kaum einen geschriebenen Satz verstehen können, und viel weniger, die einen anpsruchsvolleren Text über mehrere Seiten kapieren, als im Rest der Welt.
Der Lern-Abstand zu Ländern wie Finnland und Japan besteht aus Sage und Schreibe circa 5 Schuljahren, mit anderen Worten: die Lesefähigkeit der Deutschen erreicht im Durchschnitt mit Mühe und Not die siebte oder achte Schulklasse, vielleicht gerade noch den Hauptschulabschluss.
Mir scheint, dass die grosse Koalition der deutschen Parteien im gerade vergangenen Wahlkampf diesen Bedingungen genau entsprach: entweder aus mangelnder eigener Kompetenz, oder wegen der “Nähe zum Volk”, gar wegen beidem boten die Kampagnen einen geistigen Tiefpunkt, der etwa dem infantilen Gesülze rund um “Mutti Merkel” entspricht. Die Reden von “Wissensgesellschaft” gehören wohl eher in eine Commedy-Show – eh eines der liebsten TV-Events.
Ich wäre daran interessiert zu erfahren, wie die Deutschen in Punkto Medienkompetenz abgeschnitten hätten… Vermutlich nicht vorhanden, oder so ähnlich.
Was genau soll “Medienkomptenz” heissen?
Im Wettbewerb-Deutschland haben sehr viele Leute Schwierigkeiten mit dem Lesen, Rechnen und Computerumgang, und zwar schon auf “Konsumentenebene”. Vielleicht können sie besser Videos Klicken?

Für mich bedeutet Medienkompetenz vor allem die Befähigung zum kritischen Umgang mit den Massenmedien. Die Politikfähigkeit sollte hierbei eine besondere Beachtung finden.
Was die PIAAC-Studie angeht, finde ich den Satz »Mit PIAAC werden grundlegende Kompetenzen untersucht, die notwendig sind, um den alltäglichen und beruflichen Anforderungen erfolgreich begegnen zu können.« ziemlich entlarvend. Was ist mit besagter Politikfähigkeit und der Befähigung, sich politisch engagieren zu können? Das fehlt – ist aber für eine funktionierende Demokratie unersetzlich…
